Website Development Services in Australia

Custom website development in Next.js, React and headless CMS: fast, secure, accessible, and engineered to last.

Website development is the engineering half of the job, and it is where most Australian business websites quietly fail. The design looks fine, but the site takes six seconds to load on 4G, the CMS is a maze, the forms drop leads, and nobody can change a price without a support ticket.

We build websites properly: typed, tested, componentised code on modern frameworks, a content system your team can actually use, and a performance budget enforced from the first commit rather than apologised for at launch.

Everything we develop is measured against the things that matter commercially: Core Web Vitals, uptime, accessibility, security and how long it takes you to publish a change without calling us.

Fast by construction

Server-rendered pages, edge delivery, right-sized images and a strict JavaScript budget. Speed is a build decision, not a plugin you add later.

A CMS your team will use

Editors get clean, structured content models and live preview, not a wall of settings. Publishing a change takes minutes and never breaks the layout.

Engineered to be handed over

Typed, documented, conventionally structured code in your repository. No black box, no lock-in, no vendor holding the keys.

What website development covers

Website development turns a design into a working, maintainable product. On a typical build that means the front end, a content management layer, the integrations that connect the site to the rest of your business, and the infrastructure it runs on.

The parts nobody sees are the parts that decide whether the site is still good in three years: how content is modelled, how components are shared, how errors are handled, how deployments happen, and how quickly a new developer can understand the codebase.

  • Front-end engineering

Component-driven React and Next.js, typed end to end, matching the design exactly across every breakpoint.

  • Content management

Structured content models in a headless CMS or WordPress, so editors change content without touching layout.

  • Backend and APIs

Serverless routes, databases and integrations with the CRMs, payment systems and tools you already run.

  • Infrastructure

Edge deployment, CDN, SSL, automated backups, staging environments and monitoring that pages us, not you.

The stack we develop on, and why

We build most websites on Next.js and React with TypeScript, deployed to Vercel or Azure, with Tailwind CSS for styling and a headless CMS for content. It is not fashion. This stack gives server rendering for SEO, edge delivery for speed, a huge talent pool for your future hiring, and a component model that keeps large sites consistent.

Where a project genuinely suits WordPress, we build WordPress properly: custom blocks, no plugin sprawl, and often a headless front end so editors keep the admin they know while visitors get a modern, fast site.

For eCommerce we lean on Shopify or headless Shopify. For business platforms and internal tools we move into custom web applications. We pick the boring, well-supported option unless there is a real reason not to.

Performance engineering and Core Web Vitals

Google measures real user experience through Core Web Vitals, and slow websites lose both rankings and revenue. Every point of Largest Contentful Paint delay measurably costs conversions on mobile.

We set a performance budget at the start of development and hold to it: server components by default, images generated in modern formats at exact sizes, fonts subset and preloaded, third-party scripts loaded deliberately rather than dumped into the head, and animation that runs on the compositor.

Before launch every template is profiled on a throttled mobile connection, not on the office fibre. If a page cannot hit the budget, we change the page rather than the target.

Integrations: connecting your website to the rest of the business

A website that does not talk to your other systems just creates work. We develop the integrations that remove the re-typing: enquiries straight into your CRM, bookings into your calendar, invoices into your accounting system, stock into your storefront.

Typical integration work includes CRM platforms like Zoho, HubSpot and Salesforce, payment providers such as Stripe, accounting tools, booking and scheduling systems, marketing automation, and whatever industry-specific software your team already lives in.

  • Lead capture

Validated forms with spam protection, routed to the right inbox and the right CRM record instantly.

  • Payments

Stripe and gateway integration for deposits, subscriptions and checkout, with proper reconciliation.

  • Bookings

Calendar and scheduling integrations so customers book real availability, not a request queue.

  • Data sync

Two-way syncing between the website and your business systems, with retries and error alerting.

Accessibility, security and compliance

Accessibility is a legal expectation in Australia under the Disability Discrimination Act and a practical one for the roughly one in five Australians living with disability. We develop to WCAG 2.2 AA: keyboard operable, screen-reader sane, sufficient contrast, visible focus, and forms that announce their errors.

On security we keep dependencies current and audited, enforce HTTPS and sensible headers, validate every input server-side, rate-limit public endpoints, and keep secrets out of the client. Hosting includes automated backups and a tested restore path.

Migration and replatforming

Moving off Wix, Squarespace, GoDaddy or an ageing WordPress install is one of the most common website development jobs we take on. Done carelessly it torches your search traffic; done properly it is the single biggest performance win available to most businesses.

We inventory existing URLs and rankings, port content, map every redirect, rebuild the templates that matter, and run the old and new sites side by side until we are confident. After launch we monitor indexing and traffic daily for the first fortnight.

After launch: maintenance and support

Websites are not finished, they are released. Ongoing website development covers dependency and security updates, performance regression checks, content and feature additions, uptime monitoring and an actual human who answers when something breaks.

We offer monthly care plans, or ad-hoc work if you would rather call as needed. Either way you own the code, so you are never trapped.

How the website development process works

A predictable sequence with a fixed price, weekly visibility and no surprises at the end.

  1. 01

    Technical discovery

Requirements, integrations, content model, hosting and the constraints that will actually shape the build.

  2. 02

    Architecture

Stack decisions, data models, environments and a delivery roadmap with real dates and real scope.

  3. 03

    Build in increments

Weekly increments on a staging URL you can open any time. You watch it come together instead of waiting for a reveal.

  4. 04

    Integrate

CRM, payments, bookings and analytics wired in and tested with real data, not placeholders.

  5. 05

    Test and harden

Cross-browser and device QA, performance profiling, accessibility audit and a security review.

  6. 06

    Launch

Zero-downtime deployment, redirects verified, Search Console and analytics confirmed live, monitoring switched on.

Website Development FAQs

How much does website development cost in Australia?

Every project is quoted individually. The cost is driven by three things: how many page templates there are, how many systems the site has to integrate with, and how much custom functionality sits behind the pages. A lead-generation site and a multi-location platform with CRM and payment integration are very different builds. We scope yours properly and give you a fixed price before anything begins.

How long does website development take?

Four to eight weeks for a typical business website, eight to sixteen for a larger platform with integrations. We work in weekly increments with staging access from day one, so you always know exactly where the build stands.

What is the difference between website design and website development?

Design decides how the site looks, reads and behaves. Development builds it: the code, CMS, integrations and infrastructure that make it real, fast and maintainable. We do both, which removes the usual gap where a design gets watered down in the build.

Do you develop in WordPress or custom code?

Both, and we will tell you honestly which suits your project. WordPress makes sense when content volume and editor familiarity dominate. Custom Next.js development wins on speed, security, flexibility and long-term maintenance cost. Plenty of clients end up with headless WordPress and get both.

Will my website be fast and pass Core Web Vitals?

That is a build requirement, not an aspiration. We set a performance budget at kickoff, profile every template on throttled mobile, and target 90+ Lighthouse performance with Core Web Vitals in the green before launch.

Can you take over a website another agency developed?

Usually yes. We start with a paid audit of the codebase, hosting and dependencies so you get an honest picture of what you have. Sometimes the answer is that maintaining it costs more than rebuilding, and we will say so rather than bill you monthly to keep it upright.

Do I own the code?

Yes, entirely. Code lives in your repository, hosting is in your accounts where you want it, and everything is documented. If you ever move on, nothing about the build is designed to make that hard.

Do you provide hosting and ongoing maintenance?

Yes. Managed hosting on Vercel, Azure or AWS with edge delivery, automated backups, SSL and 24/7 monitoring, plus monthly care plans covering updates, security patches, performance checks and content changes.
